Hi We are going on our first Disney cruise on the Treasure in February. We are doing the western Caribbean cruise and I’m not sure how to pack. What’s the weather like in February?

Hey there, Kelly! You must be so excited! Not only is your cruise right around the riverbend, but it's also on the Disney Treasure! A whole new world with an endless diamond sky! I can't wait for my magic carpet ride on this latest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet this summer. Let's get your packing list ready so you can head for this shiny, shimmering, splendid wonder.

I went on a four-night Caribbean cruise on the Disney Wonder in early March a few years ago. It felt a bit strange—and awesome—to pack bathing suits and shorts when it was still cold at home. I can still close my eyes and feel the sun's warmth while listening to a Disney movie and people in the pool. Oh, the magic of a memory!

Being a tropical climate, it tends to stay warmer year-round. But you are also on a cruise ship in open water. When the sun went down and the ship left port, it was cool at night. What worked for me was shorts and T-shirts in the day and a long dress or pants in the evening. I always pack a light button-up sweater for the main dining rooms, even for summer cruises, and I wore it a lot in the evenings on this cruise. Late one night, it got cold enough that they pulled out the blankets on the ship for the Alaska itineraries for Guests watching Funnel Vision movies. I mean, I ate ice cream and grabbed a pool towel to block the wind on my legs, but the availability of a blanket was a nice touch.

I hope this helps, Kelly. Think beach-by-day and local-restaurant-with-good-air-conditioning-by-night. You certainly want to be comfortable staying in the Haunted Mansion Parlor without your teeth chattering from the cold souls around you.

Now, one tip I learned from my first Disney Cruise Line vacation: I overpacked! By a lot. If you wear long pants in the evening, I learned to pack pants that go with two shirts. I also planned my dinner outfits around shoes! With seven nights aboard the ship, I picked outfits that worked with the same shoes. There were also days that we were in bathing suits and cover-ups until time to change for dinner. With two days at sea on the Western Caribbean itinerary, I did not need seven daytime outfits and seven nighttime outfits. A shirt I wore to dinner one night was perfect to wear with shorts to watch a movie or head out for a Port Adventure the next day.

With your first cruise, be sure to look into rotational dining. It's one of my favorite things aboard a Disney Cruise, enjoying the main dining rooms with a dining team with you each night. There will also be Pirate Night, a semi-formal and a formal night. Yep, I told you how to pack light, and now I am adding to your packing list. These nights are fun! And you will find people decked out and people in jeans. Do what makes your heart happy!
