Hi! We have been to Disney before; but this will be our first time staying at a DW Resort and using a Dining plan. We are booked to be at DW 25 Aug-31 Aug. I am reading a lot on here about free dining packages, etc. Can someone fill me in, please! =)

I'd be happy to, Jessica.  The free dining buzz is about a very attractive discount that Disney has offered in the past.  Historically, the free dining promotion has been offered for various vacation dates in the fall.  It's typically offered for travel dates in late August through the latter part of September.  Last year, guests arriving on or after August 25th were able to take advantage of the savings.  The fine print varies slightly, but the gist is that guests who reserve a non-discounted vacation package to include theme park tickets and accommodations in a Disney-owned and operated resort can receive the Disney Dining Plan for free.  It can equate to a significant savings for many families.  There is no word yet as to whether or not the offer will be extended once again this year, but if that is the case, I would watch the Disney Parks Blog for an announcement in late March.  Good luck!
