Hi we are going to Disney August 11-17 - - yes: very hot! what are the best lightweight shoes or lightwieght sneakers to wear to beat the heat and be kind to your feet????? (both mom/dad and kids)

    Hello, Marianna!

We join you most summers in the heat of July and August, so we've gotten lots of practice with regard to beating the heat.

During these months, we're far more likely to ride Kali River Rapids (and get soaked...thank goodness) multiple times, and an occasional downpour will soak anyone who is caught in it, prior to the sun triumphing through the clouds later in the day. That means wet feet!  Personally, I am not a fan of wet socks and sneakers while touring the parks, so I actually leave those at home. We make sure that the younger kids have comfortable, supportive sandals (the littlest ones have back straps, too) from a well-known sports-minded brand such as Nike. Keep the toes able to breathe, in a shoe that dries quickly, and you'll all be happy!

My husband really is a sneaker lover, though, but one year, those shoes never made it to Orlando with us. In a pinch, we picked him up a pair of Crocs in the park, and he's been a fan ever since. We also have a pair or two of those flip-flops (various brands) with the exceptional padding in the sole; these help to keep the feet cool, supported and blister-free, too.

Whatever you decide on, be sure to wear them around your house for a week or so, so that they'll be broken in by the time you're in Walt Disney World. Your feet will thank you! :-)

Have a wonderful trip this summer! Be sure to send more questions as you think of them! I'd love to help!
