Hi, my family and I (5 in total) are having our first trip to Disney in April 2013.We are staying at Port Orleans resort. We are wonderingif it is better to rent a car or use the transportation provided by Disney?

    Hi Michelle!
Disney transportation is one of the many reasons to stay on Disney property and how can one resist a ride on the monorail?  When trying to decide on renting a car, there are some things to consider:
    Pro:
-Since April is spring break time, the parks are pretty busy and wait time for buses are longer than normal.
-If you plan on visiting and dining at other Disney Resorts, you will have to transfer buses. Disney does not have buses that run between resorts. If you are dining at another resort and leaving straight from yours, you will have to take 2 buses.
-If you like to park hop, having your own car can be a big time saver to do so quickly.
-Certain Disney resorts (Port Orleans included) have an internal bus system.  These resorts are HUGE so having these internal bus systems can really save your tired feet. They also make multiple stops before reaching your destination. Then you will have to take another bus to reach your final destination.
-Since you are staying at a Disney Resort, parking is free!
    Cons:
-The added expense can be a factor, but sign to receive email deals from your rental agency.
-Having to maneuver through Disney World yourself.  It's nice to driven to your destination point without having to worry about traffic or getting lost.
-The parking lots.  Using Disney's transportation you will get to bypass that parking lot and be let off much closer to the front gates.

All in all,  Disney's Transportation has done a fantastic job with getting guests to their destinations and you can have a wonderful time without the hassle of a rental car.  Looking at the pros and cons you have to decide which points are more flexible about than others.  Let us know if  you have anymore questions, we would love to help!
    Have a spectacular vacation!
