Hi, My family and I are looking into a split stay vacation. Do I need to book the dining plan for both hotel reservations? Also how do I link the two reservations so our luggage gets transferred to the second resort?

Hey there, Nicole! I am glad to welcome you to planDisney.

With so many phenomenal resorts, a split stay is an awesome way to enjoy more than one of the unique experiences on your trip to Walt Disney World. There are a few things to consider to make your split stay practically perfect in every way.

If you want to have a Disney dining plan, you can add the Disney Dining Plan or Disney Quick-Service Dining Plan to either or both reservations. To add a dining plan, you have to book a package. You can book a package that includes theme park tickets easily online. With a split stay, however, you may want to book one package with tickets that cover the total number of days you want to spend in the parks rather than two packages with their own theme park tickets. It would save you money as the ticket cost per day tends to go down the more days you go. If you want to have a dining plan with both reservations, you will need to call Disney Resort Hotel Reservations and ask for assistance with a "ticketless package." I would have them help with both reservations and get everything arranged together.

Once you are Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo-ked! you will have two separate reservations, so make sure you link both in the My Disney Experience app. Using mobile check-in will be great to let you know when your rooms are ready.

You will have two dining plans and two different days to book dining reservations and Enchanting Extras. Each dining plan expires at midnight on the day you check out of the separate resorts, so make sure you have either used or plan to use your credits with each reservation.

Walt Disney World helps with transferring your luggage automagically between your resorts, making split stays easy! You will need to leave your bags with Bell Services at your first resort, letting them know the details of your second reservation. I always ask the day before what time is best to bring my bags. Check-out is 11 a.m., but they might start moving luggage earlier. It never hurts to know how to plan.

Here's a fun tip: With two dining plans, you get two resort refillable mugs. When you check into your second resort, your new plan includes a mug, too. Classic for a split stay, it's double the fun!
