Can I take a hiking pole as a mobility aid into Disney parks

    Hi Stephen!

    Welcome to planDisney!

Walt Disney World® Resort has wonderful Services for Guests with Disabilities. I spoke with a member of our Disability Services Team to confirm that you can bring your hiking pole as a mobility aid. I would also suggest that you consider registering for the Disability Access Service. This service allows guests to reserve ride times for select attractions. So, instead of having to wait in a traditional queue, you would select a return time for an attraction, return at that time (or after) and then use the Lightning Lane entrance. Using this service does not mean you will not stand in any lines, it is intended to shorten the time you spend standing in lines for DAS eligible attractions. In my family's experience, using the service has reduced our wait times.

I also will say that the parks are expansive, some more than others. When my husband was having difficulty walking on a prior trip, we decided to use ECV Rentals at Disney's Animal Kingdom and EPCOT theme parks. He was able to manage fairly well walking at Disney's Hollywood Studios and Magic Kingdom. Just remember that ECV rentals are available on a first come, first serve basis. So, I would suggest that you rent one early in the day if you decide to use one. Also note that if you plan to use an ECV for the entirety of your trip, that may make the traditional queues tolerable and, if so, you may not be eligible for DAS.

There are also other strategies we use to manage our time in the parks and resorts. We also make advanced dining reservations and book resorts with multiple transportation options. In particular, we love resorts with access to Walt Disney World® Monorail Transportation or Disney Skyliner Transportation. And, we also request ground floor rooms if those are an option.

Stephen, my family has been pleased with the accessibility of the resorts and theme parks as well as the support of cast members as we have tried to navigate. So, if you need other guidance or advice while in the parks, visit a Guest Experiences Team area or Guest Relations and someone will be happy to assist you. Last tip - it looks like you are arriving on the last day of the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival. If you have a park day planned, I highly recommend that you stop by EPCOT to experience the festival!

    Magic and memories,
