Lynsey Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

Hi,I’ve seen a rule around not allowing selfie sticks. Is it just the extendable ones not allowed? I’ve purchased a handheld universal hand grip stabiliser selfie stick for recording on rides. Is this allowed please?

    Hi there, Lynsey!

How wonderful that you will be spending the final days of summer at Walt Disney World Resort. Thanks for allowing us at planDisney to play a small part in your vacation!

Like you, I love capturing magical memories of my family, and sometimes, still photographs just aren't enough. There's nothing quite like having the emotions of interactions with beloved characters and strolls down Main Street, U.S.A. forever preserved on video. I also know that many people also love sharing the experience of their favorite attractions, so you ask a great question, Lynsey!

Per prohibited items listed as part of Walt Disney World Resort's Property Rules, selfie sticks and hand-held extension poles for cameras or other mobile devices are not allowed in any theme park or water park. I was actually visiting Walt Disney World when selfie sticks first became popular in the States and was amazed to see signs prohibiting them posted overnight at the entrance to attraction queues!

If the stabilizer you mentioned does not feature an extended or extendable arm, then you shouldn't have a problem bringing it into Walt Disney World's theme parks. However, if it is extendable, whether or not the item is permitted entry into the theme parks would be subject to Cast Member discretion at the security checkpoint even if you don't plan on using the extendable feature.

It's also important to keep in mind that certain attractions require Guests to store all personal items (including recording devices) while in motion, so even if you do bring your stabilizer with you it might not be possible to record every attraction. Personally, I've found that sometimes I become so focused on preserving every moment on film that I sometimes forget to enjoy living them in real-time, so prohibitions such as these can lead to unexpected moments of magic.

Don't forget about the Disney PhotoPass service, Lynsey! You'll find Cast Members throughout the theme parks ready to capture magical moments for you and your family. Best of all, you'll be able to view them right in your My Disney Experience app. Just like magic!

I hope this helps you plan, Lynsey. Feel free to stop back by if any additional questions arise. I'm always happy to help!
