Hi,I'm confused with individual light lane and virtual queue. Rise of the resistance is the one attraction I cannot miss, so my question is: if I get a group with virtual queue what´s the advantage to buy the lighting lane?

Hiya Thais, thank you for swinging by planDisney with your Walt Disney World Resort vacation planning question!

You came to the right place to learn the difference between Individual Lightning Lanes and Virtual Queues. But before we get started, you need to know that Genie+ and Lightning Lane entrances also come into play. So, let’s break each down so you know exactly what you need to do to ensure you experience one of the best attractions in Disney World: Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance!

Virtual Queues are accessible through your My Disney Experience App and are used for select attractions, typically when the rides are first introduced in the parks, so Guests can enjoy the rest of the park while they “wait.” Only TRON Lightcycle / Run in the Magic Kingdom and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT are utilizing Virtual Queues, so there is no standby line/queue. Joining a Virtual Queue is free, can be requested at 7:00 AM and/or 1:00 PM (with certain restrictions), is limited in availability, and does not guarantee the ability to experience the ride.

Disney Genie+ Service needs to be purchased each day of your visit (price fluctuates by day and park) and allows Guests to use Lightning Lane entrances at select attractions and experiences. Lightning Lanes allow Guests to bypass the standby queue and experience the attraction with a shorter wait. Guests that purchase Genie+ can make one Lightning Lane selection at a time, and the first selection can be made at 7:00 AM. Once you redeem a Lightning Lane selection, you can book another, or if two hours have passed since your last selection, you can book another (*Say your first selection isn’t until the afternoon; the two-hour clock would start at park opening). These selections are for specific attractions or experiences at a particular time window.

Individual Lightning Lanes are for select attractions and do not require the Guest to pay for Genie+. They are considered Á La Carte. To purchase an Individual Lightning Lane Entry, you will open your My Disney Experience App, click the menu icon (three horizontal lines in the bottom right corner), then “LL Rides, Shows & Lightning Lane Entry,” followed by “Tip Board.” Then, select an individual Lightning Lane experience and follow the prompts to purchase.

In your case, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance has two options for enjoying the experience. The traditional Standby queue and an Individual Lightning Lane. Since this ride is important, I would purchase the Individual Lightning Lane and suggest buying an early window of time to return. With all rides and attractions, technology can be finicky. If a ride temporarily experiences an issue, you will want to give Disney a chance to bring the ride back online and allow them to continue calling boarding times.

I hope this helps answer your question, Thais. Please come back to planDisney with any additional questions you may have. May the force be with you.
