Hi! I am a brand new Enchant KH, but also have standard park reservations that I made long before I got a magic key. What is the best way to activate my pass so that I can use discounts on the first day of visit, without having to cancel our standard rez?

Greetings, Jasmine, and thank you for visiting us at planDisney! First things first – welcome to the Magic Key family. You'll love being able to visit the Disneyland Resort knowing that you have more trips on the horizon. Let's talk about the timing of activating your pass.

Jasmine, you’ll be able to enjoy Magic Key perks, such as discounts at select merchandise and dining locations, once your pass is activated. However, you’ll only need one form of admission per day – activating your Magic Key while still using a standard theme park ticket would essentially overlap your admission (unless it's a blockout day). Here are some ways you could approach your upcoming trip:

    • Keep your current theme park reservations tied to the standard ticket. Hold onto your Magic Key until your next visit. Since you have one year from the date of purchase to activate your pass, waiting to use it essentially extends the length of time you’ll be able to enjoy it, since that 12-month countdown wouldn't start just yet. The tradeoff is that you wouldn't have access to Magic Key discounts for this trip.
    • Use your Magic Key pass. If there’s reservation availability for the Enchant Key on your travel dates, you can make park reservations with your pass and use it for admission (therefore activating it). Once those reservations are confirmed, cancel your prior reservations. The original ticket, assuming it hasn't been used, can be saved for a future visit, and perhaps used on days when your Enchant Key is blocked. If it expires before then, that's ok, because you can apply the value of any wholly unused, expired Disneyland theme park ticket toward the purchase of a new theme park ticket, subject to certain restrictions.
    • Combine both options. Depending on your travel dates, you could use your Magic Key pass on eligible days and use your original theme park ticket on days the pass is blocked out. For example, the original ticket can be used on Saturday, which is a blockout day for the Enchant Key. This way, you’ll unlock Magic Key benefits during part of your visit while still making use of the ticket you already purchased.

Please review important details about using your Magic Key pass to unlock discounts. Also, check the Magic Key Portal in the Disneyland mobile app to learn about additional benefits available to Magic Key holders throughout the year, such as seasonal experiences, exclusive merchandise, and more.

One other thing to be mindful of as a Magic Key holder, Jasmine, is your theme park reservations. If you do not enter a theme park with your pass on a day you have a reservation for, you will receive a no-show. After three instances in a 90-day period, you will be unable to make new park reservations or modify existing park reservations for 30 days. Make sure to cancel a theme park reservation by 11:59 p.m. the night before if you don't think you'll be able to make it to the parks.

Jasmine, I hope this provides some clarity into your options. Whether you choose to activate your Magic Key soon or save it for later, I know you have a magical year ahead. If you have other questions, please reach out. We’re always happy to help here at planDisney!
