Ahoy, Amy! Welcome to planDisney and the first step towards setting sail with Disney Cruise Line. If you are already a Disney parks planner, then you will have no trouble preparing to go where magic meets the sea.
Since you are most interested in the
Disney Wish, you have the option of picking either a 3- or 4-Night Bahamian Cruise from
Port Canaveral, which is approximately a one hour drive from the Walt Disney World Resort. Disney Cruise Line offers convenient
ground transportation options that go directly between Disney World hotels and the port on both embarkation and debarkation day, so it is very easy for you to put the cruise in the middle of your holiday or at the end depending on your personal preference.
Dressing up in your buccaneer best and enjoying the Disney Cruise Line exclusive fireworks at sea is definitely a must do, but don’t worry because
Pirate Night is traditionally included on all of the Bahamian sailings no matter their length. When picking your preferred sailing dates and itinerary, I would focus more on what works best for your schedule and which ports of call are the most desirable to you. Both Disney Castaway Cay and Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point offer beautiful private beaches and touches of Disney magic at every turn, whereas Nassau gives you the chance to walk around the market area near the port or the opportunity to book a
Port Adventure to explore more of the island.
I would recommend picking the itinerary with stops at both of
Disney’s island destinations unless you are completely against two beach days. For an adults-only trip, the Serenity Bay adult-exclusive beach at Castaway Cay is absolute perfection. You and your father can spend the day soaking up the sun completely away from the family beach area enjoying refreshing frozen cocktails and then grab lunch at the complimentary adults-only buffet in the afternoon. I’m not typically a beach person, but I absolutely love it there and keep going back as often as I can. Although Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point offers an adults-only beach area too, it is next to the family beach and doesn’t have the same tranquility that you can find at Castaway Cay; but, there is still an adults-only complimentary buffet area to enjoy a calmer lunchtime experience. The biggest difference is how much Lookout Cay incorporated Bahamian culture by including both the Goombay Cultural Center and “RUSH! A Junkanoo Celebration,” which brings the live tradition of music, dance, and elaborate costumes to the shore each day. As a result, Lookout Cay has a very different overall atmosphere and also offers the chance to book a Port Adventure that explores more of the isle of Eleuthera too.
I hope that gives you some insight into your options and helps you narrow down your desired itinerary for your upcoming holiday. If you have any other questions about Disney World or Disney Cruise Line, my friends and I are always here to help at planDisney. Happy sailing!
