Hey!! We are WDW people, but we’re planning a trip to DLR this summer to celebrate my son’s fifth birthday! Are there any unique to DLR birthday offerings that we should check out?

Hi there, Meagan! Welcome back to planDisney and thank you for bringing us your question about my favorite thing ever - celebrating special occasions at Disneyland Resort!

Oh boy! Spending a fifth birthday at the 'Happiest Place on Earth' is definitely going to be a core memory for your son, and for your whole family! And what a great time to be celebrating, since this year is already set for the platinum party of the year, the Disney100 Celebration! Now, let's see if we can rustle up some recommendations for your little one's special day.

Have you considered a special character dining experience? I absolutely love Goofy's Kitchen for kids (and kids at heart) who love the classic characters like Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, and Chip & Dale dressed in their chef hats and aprons! Don't forget that you can make dining reservations up to 60 days in advance of your visit, and I definitely recommend that for these particularly popular character dining experiences. As you make your dining reservations, you'll have the opportunity to add a Mickey Celebration Cake to your dining reservation for an added fee. Although there is no shortage of sweets & treats at both the breakfast and dinner buffet options! I also suggest arriving a few minutes before your dining reservation and checking in with the host to let them know you are celebrating a birthday. You never know what kind of pixie dust might fly your way!

There are a few other Enchanting Extras worth mentioning, Meagan. My friend and fellow panelist Amanda loves the World of Color Dessert Party, where you can enjoy all the sights of the all-new World of Color - ONE from the comfort of premium seats! Treats AND Seats? Yes, please! This experience starts a full hour before the World of Color showtimes, so be sure to check the entertainment schedule as you plan to secure your reservations for this one.

Did you know that you can order birthday décor and magical gifts to be delivered to your Disneyland Resort hotel room? Disney Floral and Gifts at the Disneyland Resort offers In-Room Magical Celebrations that are sure to surprise and delight your 5-year-old! I also love the idea of personalizing a pair of Mickey Ears or Hat with custom embroidery at The Mad Hatter on Main Street, U.S.A. Even when my kids outgrow their toddler-sized Mickey Ear Hats, I'm planning on saving them as keepsakes. Bonus gift for mom! And don't forget that you can always pick up a complimentary celebration button at any of the Guest Relations locations throughout the Disneyland Resort theme parks or the hotels of the Disneyland Resort. They are a fun way to share your birthday announcement with Cast Members and Guests who will undoubtedly send happy birthday wishes your son's way!

I hope this is a good start, Meagan, but please come back if we can offer more recommendations for your special occasion. Every day spent at Disneyland Resort is special, but I'm wishing you and your family a very, merry birthday celebration that tops them all!

    See ya real soon,
