Hiya, Brendon! Thanks for bringing your question to planDisney!
I'm happy to hear that you are planning to purchase a new
Magic Key pass! Since it sounds like you already have a trip planned soon, I'm assuming that you currently hold regular theme park tickets and
theme park reservations. If that's the case, then you can upgrade your theme park tickets to a Magic Key and only pay the difference in price. In this scenario, you would use your theme park tickets as you had originally planned. Then, on the last day of your trip after you enter the parks, but before they close that day, upgrade your ticket to a Magic Key in the
Disneyland app. This will ensure that you don't lose any of the theme park reservations you already have in place for your trip. If you were to upgrade your tickets at the start of your trip, any theme park reservations associated with those tickets would be canceled and there may not be availability to make new ones at that point.
If you have not purchased any tickets yet and want to purchase a Magic Key instead, you would still need to make a theme park reservation with your Magic Key in order to visit the parks. You are not guaranteed entry into the parks the day you purchase a Magic Key. Additionally, if you purchase a Magic Key on a day when your Magic Key type is
blocked out, you won't be able to visit the parks that day at all.
I hope this clears things up a little for you. Have a great time enjoying the Disneyland Resort all year long with your Magic Key!
