Hey Lori! I am planning to run the TOT race in September. I have never done a race that late in the evening. Any suggestions on how to plan my meals during race day. Big breakfast, small late lunch? Any suggestions appreciated.

HI Jodie!  I am so excited about the Tower of Terror race!  I think it is going to become a favorite of mine very quickly!!

I actually ran the Wine and Dine Half Marathon last year as my first night race.  I was also very nervous about what to eat on race day and how to prepare.  I am always very careful the three or four days before a long race to stay away from eating a lot of foods high in fiber.  On race day, I had a protein-filled breakfast (eggs, bacon, toast), and then mostly carbs for lunch and dinner.  I mainly had noodles with no sauce because I didn't want something too heavy on my stomach.  Then I ate a few peanut butter crackers around two hours before the race started.   I also took a nap in between lunch and dinner, and that worked out perfectly.  I didn't have any stomach issues during the race, and actually got a PR that night!

I highly recommend having a "dress rehearsal" about two weeks before the race.  We did this for the Wine and Dine and it really eased my mind about what would happen on race day.  My friends and I ate the same foods during the day and ran an eleven mile training run (starting at 10 PM) two weeks before the half marathon.  That way we knew what would work for our bodies. We also wore the clothes we planned to run in at the race, just to ensure they would be comfortable for such a long period of time.

Jodie, I hope this helps.  Please let me know if I can help answer any other of your questions as you get ready for the Tower of Terror race!  I hope to see you there!!
