Hi Jennifer,
That sounds like an excellent family vacation!
I have a couple of suggestions for resorts my husband and I enjoy when we are traveling without our children. (We're in our 50s, too).
My first thought is that the
Wilderness Lodge may be perfect for your parents. It is close to the Fort Wilderness campground -- just a quick water taxi ride away -- so they could be near you but still enjoy the privacy and luxury of the deluxe resort. We think it is one of most serene resorts at Walt Disney World.
Artist Point and the Territory Lounge at Wilderness Lodge are among our favorite restaurants and lounges, and there's nothing more relaxing than sitting in a rocking chair in the lobby there. Of course, it is also convenient to Magic Kingdom and all the great restaurants in the resorts on the monorail.
We are also big fans of the
Beach Club and
Yacht Club resorts because of their easy access to the World Showcase at Epcot. From either resort, it's a quick walk to the International Gateway entrance of Epcot, where you can nibble and sip your way around the world. Both are also deluxe resorts.
Among the moderate resorts, we prefer
Port Orleans -- French Quarter when we are traveling without our children. It also is quiet and, because it is one of the smallest resorts, has an intimate feel. Plus, I love the hot beignets in the food court. Downtown Disney is readily accessible by boat from the resort.
I hope that helps. Please let me know if I can answer any other questions. Enjoy your time with your whole family!
Wilma
