Hey there, Jana - welcome back to planDisney! Fall is such a great time to visit
Walt Disney World Resort, and as a mom of older teens myself, I have plenty of ideas about maximizing the magic and memories during your family vacation. We moms have to stick together!
Over the years as our family has continued to travel to The Most Magical Place on Earth, my daughters' interests have changed and expanded, but we are all happy to spend most of our time together. While we started building in a "sister day" a few years ago - when the kids go off by themselves and navigate the parks - I totally understand wanting to prioritize some special experiences for the whole family with a big life transition coming up soon.
The
Enchanting Extras Collection is my favorite recommendation for Guests looking for a special experience. These range from tours to dining experiences to fun recreational activities, and there's something to suit all sorts of interests. Let me share a few of our family's favorites!
- Disney's Keys to the Kingdom Tour is perfect for any aspiring Imagineers. Guests aged 16 and older can enjoy a coveted behind-the-scenes look at Magic Kingdom Park, including the legendary underground tunnels! This is a really popular experience, so I recommend booking in advance. Enchanting Extras reservations open 60 days in advance at 6:00 AM (EST). Disney Vacation Club Members and Annual Passholders receive a discount on this tour!
- A Fireworks Cruise is a truly magical way to experience the Magic Kingdom or EPCOT nighttime fireworks shows in a whole new way! We splurged on a Magic Kingdom cruise to celebrate our youngest's 16th birthday, and it was the highlight of our vacation. You and some of your closest pals (up to 10 Guests total) will have a private boat with your own captain, including plenty of snacks and drinks. After a leisurely tour, you'll drop anchor for a picture-perfect view of the fireworks!
- If your crew includes some nature lovers, there are some very cool experiences offered at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park. These include Caring for Giants, an in-depth look at African elephants; Wild Africa Trek, which is a VIP tour that will include nearly all of the savanna's wildlife; Up Close with Rhinos, and the Starlight Safari at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, an exciting nighttime expedition!
Jana, if your teens are foodies, a special dinner at one of the phenomenal Fine/Signature Dining restaurants might be just the ticket! My oldest is partial to
Tiffins (Animal Kingdom Park), while my youngest is a big fan of
Cítricos at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
I hope these suggestions are helpful as you're making plans for your special trip! Please don't hesitate to send any other questions our way - our planDisney crew is always here to help! Wishing you a simply wonderful vacation.
See Ya Real Soon!
