Heya, Catalina! Welcome to planDisney! We’re so excited to welcome you back to the Disneyland Resort! Even if I visited the resort just last week, I still find myself thinking, “I’m overdue for a visit!”.
Let’s talk about everyone’s favorite subject—weather! While Southern California is known for its abundant sunshine, March in Anaheim can be a bit of a mixed bag. You'll likely experience pleasant daytime temperatures, but it can get cool in the mornings and evenings. Think of it like this: You might start the day needing a light jacket, shed it by lunchtime, and want it back again after sunset.
In March, you can usually expect average high temperatures to be in the low 70s (°F), and the overnight lows usually dip into the low 50s (°F), or even the upper 40s (°F). I may be a native Midwesterner, but my body has adjusted to California weather—I find my teeth chattering like the Hitchhiking Ghosts’ from the
Haunted Mansion when the temps drop below 60 degrees! You’ll just want to keep in mind that these are average temperatures, and weather can be unpredictable! You might get a heat wave, or you might get some rain—it’s always best to check the forecast closer to your travel dates.
Here is my biggest piece of packing advice: layers, layers, layers! I recommend starting your day with a short-sleeved shirt as your base. Then, add a long-sleeved shirt, light sweater, or a light jacket over it. A packable, lightweight windbreaker is also a great option, especially if the forecast calls for a chance of rain, or if you plan to ride water attractions, such as
Grizzly River Run or
Tiana's Bayou Adventure. (Bonus points if the jacket is waterproof!). I’ve found that the windbreaker really helps keep the chill out on outdoor attractions like
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Even a light breeze gets amplified when you’re on the “wildest ride in the wilderness!”.
Those layers will be especially useful in the early mornings when you’re heading to the parks (it can be quite brisk!), and again in the evenings when the sun goes down. You'll be comfortable shedding layers as the day warms up, and glad to have them back as it cools down again. I especially appreciate having a jacket when I stay late for the nighttime spectaculars, such as
Fantasmic! And don't worry about carrying those extra layers (or fun souvenirs you pick up along the way!) all day. Disneyland Resort offers convenient
locker rentals in both parks, as well as in the Esplanade just outside the park entrances. These lockers come in a few sizes, so you can easily stash a jacket, a backpack, or even those newly-acquired Minnie ears until you need them again. Personally, I tend to prefer the lockers that are available in the Esplanade. I’ve been known to hop between parks frequently, so I love that I can quickly stop by my locker to pick something up or store some new merchandise purchases.
I hope these tips help you pack perfectly for your magical Disneyland adventure, Catalina! Remember, 'ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind...or gets too cold because they forgot their jacket! Just be prepared for the weather with thoughtful layers, and you'll have a blast. Aloha, and have a wonderful trip!
