Let me first say that I think you are making a very wise choice in looking at Disney's Art of Animation Resort for your next Walt Disney World Vacation! This place is incredible!!!!

I wanted to let you know that the Finding Nemo, Lion King, and Cars themed rooms are all Family Suites. So, you are correct in saying that the rooms closest to Animation Hall are all Family Suites. The only standard rooms available at Disney's Art of Animation resort will be The Little Mermaid themed rooms. I also just talked to a very helpful Cast Member to verify your "Preferred Room" question. She said that there are not any designated "Preferred Rooms" at this resort.
