Hi Sandra,
Welcome to planDisney and thank you so much for asking us a question my fellow Canadian!
I love the convenience of using
Disney Gift Cards purchased in Canada to pay for my purchases during my Disney Parks vacations. As you may know, while the cards’ starting balance is in Canadian funds, after you make your first purchase, the day’s exchange rate is applied in order to convert the amount to US dollars. After that, these Disney Gift Cards become just like those purchased in the United States, with a US dollar balance.
I’m happy to say that I have used Canadian Disney Gift Cards for my shipboard account with Disney Cruise Line before, so you shouldn’t have a problem… but I have gotten some conflicting information about this in the past. To help you potentially avoid any issues, here’s what I would recommend: if you have time before your cruise, make a purchase at a land-based Disney Merchandise location on each of the Disney Gift Cards you bought in Canada. You can obviously use them in a Walt Disney World Resort Theme Park, but you can also use them at various locations at
Disney Springs or even at the
Magic of Disney stores at Orlando International Airport. If you do that, you shouldn’t have an issue using them for your shipboard account during your cruise.
That said, because the information regarding Canadian Disney Gift Cards is always subject to change, I’d recommend that you
email Disney Cruise Line to get a definitive answer for your sailing.
Please don’t hesitate to come back and see us if you have any other questions. We’re always happy to help!
Have a Magical Day,
Lynne
