Your help was invaluable when planning our DW vaca in June! DD 8th birthday is in January. We want to celebrate with a Disney cruise to E Caribbean! Would we be better off to go in December or is January ok as far as weather temp, rough seas & crowd

    Hi, Michelle!

Oh, thanks for the compliment -- you're a sweetie! I absolutely love what I do by helping other Disney guests plan their family's vacations. And now that I'm dispensing pixie dust for Disney's sea-faring guests, I get such a nautical charge out of making sure your voyages are ship-shape, too!

Let me roll up my sleeves and help you think this decision through:

    • If you choose a 6- or 7-night Eastern Caribbean itinerary in December, you're going to be paying a good bit more (especially during the weeks surrounding Christmas) than you will by going in January. The cost usually matches the demand -- which means the ship is more likely to be sold out in December than in January.
    • The weather is pretty much the same in December as it is in January. I've taken a cruise in the Caribbean in January and can report that the sun can be very hot!
    • The greatest advantage of going in December is that you get to see the ship, the terminal and Castaway Cay decked out in holiday attire. Plus, you are privy to all those special holiday touches including special events, activities, entertainment and experiences!
My vote is to go in January when everyone else is stuck where it's grey and gloomy. You'll enjoy a week basking in the sun and celebrating with your precious princess in her actual birthday month! I hope that helps you plan. Let me know if you have more questions. I'm happy to help!

Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
