Hello, What are the types of payment accepted aboard the Disney Wonder? Is cash accepted? We are embarking and disembarking from Sydney, Australia. Will on-board charges be in US or Australian dollars? Thank you.

Why hello again Emmanuel and welcome back to planDisney!

Here's hoping you've been able to glean some shiny pearls of wisdom and perhaps a bit of nautical knowledge from our team as you prepare to set sail - it's definitely coming up soon and I hope you're super excited! I've just recently debarked from my own cruise recently and had the opportunity to ask the friendly Crew Members at the Guest Services desk all about payment on board and am happy to share my findings:

    • At the present time, despite sailing internationally all transactions including charges made to your onboard folio will be in US Dollars. The Crew Members pointed me to the acceptable modes of payment for shipboard purchases and let me know that cash is currently one of the ways that guests are able to pay for their accounts, and they recommended that this is something that you wouldn't want to wait to settle until the final morning.
    • The Guest Services Crew Members also mentioned that families who choose to pay off their onboard accounts with cash in other currencies like Australian dollars will need to visit the Guest Services Desk first to exchange their currency to the US Dollar amount which can then be used towards their folio payment. (There is currently no transaction fee to exchange currency on board, but this may be subject to change without further notice and there is no guarantee that the exchange rate will be favourable on the day.) Some savvy international sailors either know to keep track and check the dynamic exchange rate on board before they do so, or even choose to make payments with Disney Gift Cards to avoid worrying about any major fluctuations by the time of their voyage.
    • I also spoke with a number of folks on board Disney Wonder on their Disney Magic at Sea voyage from Sydney who wanted to make sure that international guests from Australia and New Zealand were aware that the pricing for onboard purchases like merchandise and beverages are listed in dollars without posted signage necessarily indicating that this is actually in USD. I think that it's wise for first-time cruisers to be a bit more mindful as it's quite easy to forget that this was always the amount in American currency - just to avoid being surprised at the converted total reflected on their credit cards at the end of the cruise.
    Hope that this helps, Emmanuel!
