Hello, We are going to WDW MK with my 3 1/2 year old in March. It is his first trip and I was a little concerned about the size of the characters. Can you tell me about how tall they are so I can help him understand before we go? Thanks

    Hi Heather!

I just quickly flipped through a bunch of our Disney photo albums and scanned our character pictures.   This is far from a scientific answer, but, based on my hundreds of pictures, the characters throughout the parks vary in size, but many are approximately the height of  an average adult.  Some characters like Donald are a bit shorter, and Goofy, Buzz Lightyear and Tiger are a bit is taller.  Most are not overwhelmingly "huge". I'm about 5'3", and Mickey and Minnie seemed a bit taller than me in my pictures.  Goofy had a couple of feet on me.  The one thing I noticed is that in all of the pictures with just my kids and the characters, many of the characters were "squatting down" to be at eye level with my kids.

The Cast Members who "play" the characters are amazing at gently approaching children.  The will not "push them" to interact if they are fearful.  It's absolutely fine to hold your son if that makes him more comfortable, or even enjoy the characters at a distance at the parades and other venues if he is a bit apprehensive.  You should also know that other than the princesses and princes, the characters do not speak in costume.  Some kids are surprised when they try to talk to the characters and don't hear a voice back.  The will gesture and be very animated (hug, sign autographs, give high fives, etc.), however won't speak.

    Have a magical trip!
