Hello, Trying to add one more to my party for 7/18 Magic Kingdom that is currently sold out. However, I'm not planning to be there before 2pm. Can I purchase a hopper and make a reservation for a different resort, but just go to MK after 2pm?

    Welcome to planDisney, Joanna!

I'm so glad you stopped by with your great question. With all the EARidescent excitement going on at Walt Disney World, there's so much to see and do. It seems like the whole world is flocking in to experience the magic. Disney has introduced the park reservation system to make sure that there's a manageable level of crowds in the parks. Magic Kingdom Park seems to be the theme park that reaches capacity first. However, as you mentioned, with the Park Hopper Option, you can still visit Magic Kingdom after 2:00 PM, even if there are no reservations available.

However, at this time, Joanna, in order to park hop after 2:00 PM, you do have to first visit the theme park that you make reservations for. For example, let's say you make park reservations on July 18 for EPCOT. Even if you'd like to simply enjoy Magic Kingdom Park that day, you'd have to first enter EPCOT. You could then quickly leave EPCOT and take the monorail to Magic Kingdom Park. However, you couldn't simply turn up at Magic Kingdom Park after 2:00 PM. Does that make sense?

It's not the most convenient system, I know. I had this same issue on my last trip. I wanted to visit Magic Kingdom Park, but it was at capacity. I had the Park Hopper Option, however, even though it was past 2:00 PM, I had to first visit Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park (which I had a park reservation for) before I could enjoy Magic Kingdom Park. I just decided to make the best of it and I ended up having a great day. I trust you will too!

I noticed that EPCOT still has availability on July 18. Let me suggest you head there and experience Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. This groovy attraction opened up at the end of May and is my new favorite ride. It's a massive indoor Omnicoaster that uses the latest technology to immerse Guests in the action. Here's a tip: for the most intense experience, sit in the very back.

At the moment, there is no standby line option to experience this attraction. You can either purchase an Individual Lightning Lane entrance (from 7:00 AM on the day of your visit if you're staying at a Disney Resort) or join the virtual queue. You don't want to miss it!

Thanks for visiting us at planDisney, Joanna. Have a magical trip!
