Hello, Patricia, and welcome back to planDisney! We love when you stop by with your great questions!
What a special visit you have coming up to the Happiest Place on Earth soon, with some very special people! I'm so thrilled you'll be able to share this magical place together. With all there is to experience and explore, I'm really glad that you're planning ahead. Thank you for your thoughtful question.
As you mentioned, with
Rider Switch, eligible Guests may take turns experiencing an attraction while one party waits outside the queue and the remainer of their party waits in the queue. Once the first party returns from riding, the remaining Guest(s) may board the attraction without having to wait in the standard queue.
According to the Disneyland website, the party of any Guest who does not plan to ride but cannot wait outside the queue alone, is eligible for Rider Switch - which sounds like y'all! After the first group from your party has experienced an attraction, the kind family member(s) who waited with Great Grandma can take up to one additional Guest with them for their turn - even if the plus one had already experienced it! That's a fun little tip.
Rider Switch is available at most attractions throughout the Disneyland Resort, but not all. I suggest speaking with the Cast Member at the entrance of the attraction to check if Rider Switch is available. They'll be happy to assist you!
There were a handful of times my youngest son did not meet the height requirement for certain attractions during our family's first visit to Disneyland and, while that could have been seen as a bummer, it actually turned out to be very special one-on-one time my husband and I each got to have with him! We made a "date" out of it and treated ourselves to a
Jack-Jack Cookie Num Num or a quick hello to Lightning McQueen in
Cars Land. I have no doubt this will be the case with your family, too, as you'll get to share a sweet treat or special conversation with Great Grandma in the Happiest Place on Earth. I'm so excited for you all.
I wonder if Great Grandma would be able to experience my favorite attraction in all of Disneyland?
The Disneyland Railroad! It's nostalgic, relaxing, and allows Guests to discover most of Disneyland without taking a step. The Disneyland Railroad also delights all ages! Guests may board or disembark the train at any of the four stations: Main Street, U.S.A., New Orleans Square, Mickey's Toontown, and Tomorrowland, or stay onboard for the whole loop, which lasts about 20 minutes. I love to grab a Mickey-shaped Beignet and a Mint Julep at the Mint Julep Bar and hop "all aboard" at the New Orleans Station the last hour before sunset. It's pure magic.
Patricia, I hope this has been helpful information. If you have any other questions or would like some additional tips or recommendations, like how to experience the magic of
Disneyland's 70th Celebration or strategies to make sure you hit all your top priorities, don't hesitate to reach out again anytime! I wish you the most magical visit!
Warmest wishes,
McCayla
