Hello, My wife and I will be staying at the Port Orleans-Riverside the weekend of 09/08/11-09/11/11. We are planning on visiting Epcot and Animal Kingdom. Can you recommend some books to read about the history of the parks? 57 days til WDW!

    Hi Edward,

Welcome to the Moms Panel! We're glad you're hEAR!  I love that you are counting down the days to your trip & know that each day, you get a little more excited.

There are so many awesome books about the history of the Disney Parks. Sounds like you many be looking for some specifically geared towards Epcot and Animal Kingdom since those are the parks you'll be visiting on your upcoming trip.

For Disney's Animal Kingdom, check out The Making Of Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park by Melody Malmberg.

For Epcot try Walt Disney's EPCOT Center: Creating The New World of Tomorrow by Richard R. Beard.  If you're looking for something a little more on the technical side, try Building A Better Mouse: The Story Of The Electronic Imagineers Who Designed Epcot by Steve Alcorn and David Green.

I also love watching documentaries and my favorite is The History Channel's Modern Marvels: Walt Disney World (2005).  I was floored to see how they built the Tree of Life!

Another favorite DVD of mine is The Secrets, Stories, and Magic Behind the Scenes Disney Parks Where Dreams Come True (2010).

Another must read on my list is Walt Disney An American Original by Bob Thomas. This book gets to the heart of Disney where it all began on December 5, 1901 when Walter Elias Disney was born. Its an amazing story and I somehow feel closer to the parks knowing more about the man who started it all.

Wishing you many magical memories :-) Allison
