Hello, My family is planning on traveling to Disney world, my husband and my self are large people ( 241 pounds and 310 pounds) getting around is easy for us. Are we going to have to feel embarrassed again by our weight and just not fitting on rides

    Hi Ashley,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and thank you for asking us a question, my fellow Canadian!

I’ll let you in on a little secret: one of the things that I love the most about visiting Walt Disney World Resort is how wrapped up in the Disney Magic I get when I’m there. Things that might make me self conscious in the less magical “real world” don’t affect me as much when I’m in the Disney Parks. Even better? I usually get the sense that everyone around me is so wrapped up in the Magic that they don’t care, either! After all, most of us are walking around with giant glittery Ear Hats and Headbands on our heads, and faces full of joy. Ain’t no room for shame in our Mouse game!

In all seriousness, though, if you and your family are reasonably fit and can walk several kilometres a day during your Disney Days, then I think you’ll be just fine. In fact, you’ll find that most Walt Disney World Resort attractions fit Guests of a wide range of shapes and sizes. At attractions where the ride vehicles may not be one size fits truly “all” (and let me reassure you, those attractions are very few in number), there is often a “tester” vehicle located outside, near the attraction’s entrance. Guests there can get familiar with how to load and unload from the ride vehicle, as well as get information from a Cast Member about any other potential “fit” issues. If you don’t one at an attraction, be sure to ask the nearest Cast Member for assistance.

Based on my experience, you should be good to go for most attractions, but the one where I think you should check the ride vehicle out before getting into the queue would be for Avatar Flight of Passage. That’s the one attraction where I understand some “pooh sized” Guests have had fit issues. If you have any questions there, or at any other attraction, please be sure to ask the Cast Member who is located at the entrance. They’ll be happy to assist you!

Please don’t hesitate to come back and see us if you have any other questions. We’re always happy to help everyone enjoy their Disney Parks vacation to the fullest.

    Have a Magical Day,

    Lynne
