Hello, My daughter is 4. Can she travel with just a birth certificate if we are leaving from Florida and just going to Disney’s private island/Bahamas?

Ahoy there! Welcome to planDisney and thanks for sailing over with your Disney Cruise Line question about required travel documents.

As the Disney fleet continues to expand, Disney Cruise Line is now visiting ports of call all around the world and the exact travel documentation requirements can vary by both departure port and itinerary. Additionally, the required documents may be different for each guest depending on their particular citizenship. For the most up-to-date information, please visit the “Passports, Visas, & Citizenship Documentation” page prior to your sailing.

However, assuming that your daughter is a United States citizen, then her original birth certificate should be the only documentation needed for a round trip Bahamian or Caribbean cruise departing from Port Canaveral or Port Everglades in Florida. Currently, a United States citizen who is 15 years of age and younger does not need to present a government-issued photo ID for those particular types of sailings, but they are required to present one of the following documents:

    • Original valid US passport
    • Original valid US passport card
    • Original valid Trusted Traveler Card (NEXUS, FAST)
    • Original state-issued birth certificate
    • Original Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) issued by the Department of State
    • Original Certificate of Naturalization issued by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services

Based on those requirements and the age of your daughter, her original birth certificate should be sufficient. You will be asked to upload copies of all of your travel documents during the Online Check-In process, but be sure to bring the originals with you on embarkation day.
