Mom and Child wearing Magic Bands

Hello! I purchased and used a MagicBand in 2020, and I’m going to Walt Disney World this September 2023. Can that same MagicBand still be used?

    Hi Jason, welcome to planDisney!

They say lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place, but magic sure does! You're going to be blown away by the two newest attractions at Walt Disney World Resort: TRON Lightcycle / Run at Magic Kingdom Park and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT. Both attractions can currently be accessed by using your My Disney Experience mobile app to join the Virtual Queue and/or purchasing an Individual Lightning Lane.

I'm as gratified as Groot to let you know your MagicBand from 2020 can still serve as your method of entry in 2023. MagicBands are linked to all of the vacation entitlements (past, present, and future) in your My Disney Experience account. As long as your MagicBand is listed as 'active' on the MagicBands and Cards page of your My Disney Experience account, you can use it to tap in at theme park entry and Lightning Lane entrances.

The long-range battery life of older MagicBand designs is said to be two years. As such, there's a chance your 3-year-old MagicBand will have trouble automagically linking Disney PhotoPass attraction photos and videos to your My Disney Experience account. The solution for this is to use your smartphone as a backup plan. Make sure you are signed in to the My Disney Experience mobile app, keep your mobile device out of low power mode while on an attraction such as TRON Lightcycle / Run, and enable Bluetooth technology for the app. Oh, and don't forget to smile!

I hope you have a thrilling visit, Jason. Please return to planDisney with any other trip-planning questions.
