Hello I am coming to Disney in 2 weeks time, We have booked some character dining experiences but I am wondering if we should book other 'standard' restaurants as well. We haven't been before so don't know if we can just turn up to eat? Thanks

    Hi Laura!

Wow!  Two weeks to go until you are on your first Walt Disney World vacation, I'm sure your house is buzzing with excitement right about now!  My family and I love Disney's character dining, it's a fun way to enjoy your meal and spend time with some of our favorite characters.  While I'm sure that my children would be content dining at nothing but character meals during our visits, I like to throw in a few calmer meals during my stay.  Although I absolutely love dining with the characters, the meals are more about the fun and less about the relaxing.

During slower times of the year you might be able to find a few table service restaurants that will have walk up availability.  However, busier times of the year such as summer and around holidays it can be very difficult, if not impossible, for any restaurant to have walk up availability.  I highly suggest that you make reservations before you leave to keep from having to seek out places once you arrive.

Many reservations will be harder to book this close to your arrival date, but don't let that stop you!  Try altering your meal times and keep checking back if you are looking for a particular restaurant.  With a 24 hour cancellation policy, it is common for reservations to become available due to cancellations. Also, once you arrive be sure to check with the concierge as they may be able to help secure last minute reservations if you were unable to secure them before you arrive.  Once again, I highly suggest that you secure these reservations before you leave home if at all possible.

I hope you have a magical vacation and please let me know if you have any more questions!

    Kindest Regards,
