Hello Can you please explain genie+ and lightning lanes we have not been in 4 years and are booking a trip.I used to do all the resides and Fast passes but this is a little confusing. We will be staying on property at CBR. Thanks

Welcome back to planDisney, Henry. It's great to chat with a fellow Pennsylvanian about planning a trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth.

Henry, as guest who was also well-versed in the FastPass+ system, I appreciate your question. And... before I dive into a quick tutorial of Genie+ and Lightning Lanes, I'll encourage you to check out THIS announcement from the Disney Parks Blog regarding changes that might be coming in 2024 to Disney Genie+. I would encourage you to bookmark the Disney Parks Blog and continue to check back as your trip approaches.

Now, let's jump into current practices of Disney Genie+. At this time, you can purchase Disney Genie+ beginning at midnight on the day of your park visit. So, for example, when my family went, on days that we were still awake at midnight, I opened up the My Disney Experience Mobile App and made our Disney Genie+ purchase at midnight and then made our first Lightning Lane selection at 7:00 AM in the morning. Some evenings, if we were already asleep by midnight, I would wake up around 6:00 AM and make our Disney Genie+ purchase at that time so that I was ready to make our Lightning Lane selection at 7:00 AM. Please take a look at THIS PAGE to see which attractions are included in Disney Genie+ Lightning Lanes versus those that are only available through Individual Lightning Lanes (and need to be purchased separately). As a guest staying at Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, you can also purchase these beginning at 7:00 AM.

Henry, as an example, let me share how my family uses Disney Genie+ when we visit Disney's Hollywood Studios. After we have purchased Disney Genie+ (likely at midnight), I will try to secure a Lightning Lane for Slinky Dog Dash at 7:00 AM while my husband would purchase an Individual Lightning Lane for Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Now, as Slinky Dog Dash is a popular attraction, it's possible that the time available might be later in the day. If so, we'll set an alarm on our phone for 2 hours after park opening to make another Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane selection. Depending on the attraction, this Lightning Lane might be before our Slinky Dog Dash time.

Henry, while it does sound a bit complicated, I'm happy to share that I felt much more at ease after the first day of using this system. I hope this helps as you're planning ahead. If you have any additional questions, please come on back to planDisney as we are always happy to assist!

    Wishing you a pixie-dusted stay,
