Ahoy there, Ashley and welcome back to planDisney! It looks like this time around you'll be weighing anchor and setting sail - and in just a few months, how exciting!
Ah, the Wave Phones - like something straight out of "the future" in the final scene of
Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress, these onboard cell phones were ahead of their time! And yet, like some predictions of the future, they have been passed by some of the innovations of today! I still remember how excited I was when the Wave Phones were introduced...IT WAS LIKE A CELLPHONE AT SEA!
In any case, I had a suspicion that with current policies and procedures outlined in the
Know Before You Go information that the Wave Phones may be currently paused as an offering. After pulling into port to check with a crew member, I'm sorry to say I was able to confirm that this is the case and since they are high-touch items they are currently unavailable.
You know what they say, when life hands you pineapples, make DOLE whip...(people totally say that, right?) and I have a few "planDrew-approved" tips for you to help navigate these rough waters:
- As long as you have your phone and the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app, the Disney counselors at Disney's Oceaneer Lab and Disney's Oceaneer Club will be able to contact you if any issues arise or your son wishes to be picked up before his reserved time ends! A notification will be sent through the app and you'll be able to tell him he has two wishes left, haha!
- If you happen to have an extra iPhone, small Android tablet, or dare I say an old wi-fi-capable iPod handy, you should be able to download the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app to it and have it be the only app on it! While it won't win any style points, we can file this solution under, "It's an older code, sir, but it checks out."
- Speaking of old codes, a couple of soup cans and a REALLY long string could keep you in-touch...ok, so this one isn't really a valid solution, but could you imagine if it were? haha!
Jokes aside, I know when it comes to your son that "Mother Knows Best" and you'll find the right way to make your son feel comfortable while at the Youth Clubs! Plus, I know the counselors are highly trained, and should any needs arise, you are just a message - and a few of the ship's decks - away!
I hope that's a map you can chart a course with, Ashley! Thank you again for your question. I wish you, your son, and your entire crew an incredible time on your upcoming sailing. Oh, I almost forgot - be sure to say "hiya" to Captain Minnie for me, and if you happen across any additional questions as your cruise gets closer, you can always drop us a line here at planDisney!
Until then, I wish you fair winds and following seas!
Andrew
