Ahoy Michael!
I’d love to be “part of your world” with an upcoming sailing on Disney Cruise Line. Like Ariel, “what would I give to spend a day warm on the sand” of
Castaway Cay! Disney’s private island has both a relaxed vibe and amazing activities, which means so much to do ashore and what always feels like so little time! My family is always part of the "last call" of Guests making their way back to the ship; we try to stay on Castaway Cay as long as we can...without getting left behind!
You are correct that the Bahamas does have a VAT (value added tax). The VAT charge is 12 percent, and from what I can tell, it is for virtually all consumer products and services in the Bahamas. Guests can expect to see this tax added to goods and services purchased ashore in
Nassau and Castaway Cay, including souvenirs, food and drinks, spa treatments, and even the Castaway Cay cabanas. If applicable, VAT charges will automatically be included in the price of any
Port Adventures that you book. So budget accordingly because 12 percent adds up fast!
While we’re on the subject of money, I recommend that you stockpile Disney gift cards in the months leading up to your cruise and use those to pay your onboard account. Did you know you can combine those gift cards onto one card? Once you create an account on the
Disney Gift Card website, the cards can all be consolidated onto a single card (up to $ 1000).
Michael, don’t search for a dinglehopper, just use your computer to send more questions to planDisney as you navigate your cruise planning waters. Wishing you a “fun in the sun” day on Castaway Cay!
