Jennifer from ON Asked Please note that experiences, policies, pricing and other offerings are subject to change and may have changed since the date of this answer.

I just heard a rumor that the new lightning + won't be available for pre-booking if you live outside of the US. Is this correct?

Hi there Jennifer, I'm happy to give you a great Canadian welcome to planDisney!

As you can imagine, so many Canadians were delighted and perhaps a little dismayed when the announcements were made about upcoming updates to Lightning Lane passes that would not be available for international guests to neither purchase nor book until their arrival into the United States, and I've definitely heard a few differing bits of information from fellow guests and Cast Members alike this past week. While this is a new offering yet to launch on July 24, I did my best to ask questions on behalf of everyone from Canada heading down to the Disney destinations and here's the official messaging that I received regarding Canadian eligibility:

    • "Canadian guests may continue to use the My Disney Experience app after the launch of pre-arrival purchasing and planning for Lightning Lane passes." At the time of writing, Disney officially confirmed that Canadians were an exception to the previous statements regarding international guests, and would be eligible to purchase their Lightning Lane passes from home and make their bookings without being required to physically be present in the United States.
    • According to this messaging, this means that Canadians would be able to use the My Disney Experience app ahead of their trip. As for other international guests coming in from anywhere outside of the United States and Canada, pre-booking is still something that they'd have to wait to do until they arrive in the country from overseas.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that nothing drastically changes between now and the official launch date, but I still recommend keeping an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for any further announcements and updates as well as where you'll also find all of our dedicated planDisney content. In the meantime, you're always welcome to come back and check in with us in case anything is different between now and your upcoming trip so we can provide you with the most up-to-date answers!

Here's hoping Canadians will continue to enjoy the convenience of planning in advance!
