I have heard from quite a few people to bring a lot of money when you enter the parks. What costs once you have entered the park (other than food)?? How much money should I plan to take for our family of four (1 & 3 year old children)?

    Michelle,

This can be a pretty tricky topic.  Of course, everyone has differing budgets and opinions on how much to spend and where in the parks.  I am of the philosophy of not taking cash into the parks.  This can be dangerous if you are robbed or drop cash inadvertently while getting something out of your bag or pockets.  For safety and protection, we use credit cards or charge things to our room (if you happen to be staying on property). This also makes it easier with less bulk to carry around.

Other than food, the only other expense I can think of is souvenirs! So, you would have to use your judgement on how much you plan to spend on those sorts of things based on your personal budget. Obviously, children can be enamored by all things princess, pirate, Mickey, shiny or light-up, and after a few, it can turn into quite the expense. Our family rule is that each of our children earn money prior to our trip for their souvenirs. Typically, our kids are told they can choose one big souvenir or several small things.  With your children's ages, they aren't going to understand spending on a budget, but they may also not really be asking for a whole lot (at least the one year old).  So, you have free reign to set your budget and determine how you will spend it.

One last tip, take lots of pictures. My vacation photos are treasured mementos long after the souvenirs are gone.

I know this seems awfully vague, but as I said before, it is difficult to give advice on budgets as this can be a tricky subject.

Have a magical vacation and enjoy the memories you will create with those precious little ones.  Those memories are priceless and the small moments watching them take in the magic of the parks won't cost you a thing.
