I have heard about the Opening Ceremony at MK and AK. What is it and what time does it start? We will be using our own car and staying at AS Movies. What time should we leave the resort to make it for the opening ceremonies if the parks open at 9 am?

    Hi Lisa!

Every Walt Disney World Park has a unique "Opening Ceremony" and only the brave of heart (those who are willing to get up early on vacation) get to witness these magical shows!  The Opening Ceremonies occur right before the Park opens, usually about 5-8 minutes before the official Park opening time.  I would recommend that you show up 15 to 20 minutes before the official Park opening time so that you can go through the bag check and ticket stations and get to the area just inside the Park where the Opening Ceremony takes place.

    From the All Star Movies:

To Animal Kingdom leave about 10-15 min of travel time to the Park--so leave at around 8:30 am

To Hollywood Studios leave about 15-20 min of travel time to the Park--so leave at around 8:20 am

To Epcot leave about 15-20 min of travel time to the Park--so leave at around 8:20 am

To Magic Kingdom leave about 30-40 min of travel time to the Park--so leave at around 8:00 am (with a car you have 15-20 minutes of travel time to get to the Ticket and Transportation Center and then you need to take a Monorail or Ferry Boat to the Magic Kingdom which is an additional 10-20 minutes).

Keep in mind that the times that I gave you are just estimates and the actual time could be shorter or  longer, but I have been to all of these Opening Ceremonies by traveling in a rental car and these times are the averages travel times that I experienced.

I hope that you get to witness some magical Opening Ceremonies at Walt Disney World!
