I heard about some kind of "secret" gift exchange between people on the cruise. Do you know about this and how to get involved? thanks

Welcome aboard, Shannon! You must be talking about the Fish Extender exchange groups that form before guests head out to sea with Disney Cruise Line!

These secret (or not so secret) little gift exchanges are a lot of fun and a great way to add even more magic to your cruise, especially if you have little kids. These are not sponsored by Disney Cruise Line, but instead are created by individual groups of guests who meet up on various online forums before they sail. Disboards.com is the most popular one I've seen. If you click on the Disney Cruise Line tab at the top of the Disboards website, then the Forums tab, you'll see three options. Select Disney Cruise Meets. Here you'll see a listing of years and ships. Click on say, 2014 Disney Magic to find a Magic sailing this year. Then you'll see all the different sail dates. You can join the forum for your exact sailing where you can chat online with other cruisers and get to know them before you head out to sea. If they have started a Fish Extender exchange it'll be mentioned there. Each group tends to create their own rules for gifts and distribution.

Why a Fish Extender, you ask? Good question. On each ship, outside guest staterooms, there is a little clip that looks like a fish or seahorse. People in these exchanges hang a hanging pocket off of the fish, thus extending the fish clip, allowing guests to put things in their little pockets. If you google Fish Extender for Disney Cruise Line, you will see some photo examples to get a better idea.

My kids love to plan gifts to give each member in our group and then distribute onboard. Plus, of course they love to come back to the stateroom and find surprises waiting for them! As if the cruise itself weren't enough fun, this really adds to it and allows you to get to know some fellow cruisers before you set sail.

Have fun as you plan, Shannon and let me know if you have other questions before you set sail!
