I heard from a friend that when he stayed at (I think it was) the Animal Kingdom, he got a Savanna view and could not really see the animals because they were too far away, is that true?

Many years ago I stayed in the Animal Kingdom Lodge and had a room with a Savanna view.  We had animals right outside of our window.  In the evening, the Savanna would be filled with artificial moonlight and we would sit on the balcony just admiring the animals below.

We went before they began construction on the new Disney Vacation Club property.  It is possible that the construction is keeping some animals at bay.
