Hi, Jose! Welcome to planDisney!
Your Walt Disney World Resort vacation will be here before you know it! I think it's a great idea to do your research before your visit so that you don't miss out on any of your must-do experiences. I believe that what you're referring to in your question is the
virtual queue system. A virtual queue is used for some of Walt Disney World Resort's most popular attractions, so let's chat about how you can access these rides.
Currently, a virtual queue system is in place for
TRON Lightcycle / Run in Magic Kingdom Park and for
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT. At this time, there is no standby queue available for either of these attractions. If you'd like to join the complimentary virtual queue, you can do so using your
My Disney Experience mobile app.
It is important to note that while
theme park reservations continue to be required, you will need a park reservation for Magic Kingdom Park on the day you'd like to join the virtual queue for TRON Lightcycle / Run. If you plan to join the virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, you will need a park reservation for EPCOT on that particular day. Your valid theme park admission also needs to be linked to your My Disney Experience account.
The first opportunity to join a virtual queue happens each day at 7:00 a.m. I recommend opening your My Disney Experience app around 6:55 a.m. to get ready. When you open your app, click on the three little lines in the bottom-right corner of your screen. Next, click on "Virtual Queues." You can follow the prompts in your app to set up your virtual queue party. You will want to select all of the members of your group who wish to experience the attraction. At exactly 7:00 a.m., refresh your screen and click the "Join Virtual Queue" button. If you are successful, you will be assigned a boarding group number.
Boarding groups will begin to be called once the theme park opens for the day. You will receive a push notification from your app when your boarding group is called. You then have a one-hour window to arrive at the attraction for your turn to ride. Please keep in mind that you still may have a short wait before boarding the attraction.
If you are unsuccessful at obtaining a boarding group at 7:00 a.m., there is another opportunity to join the virtual queue at 1:00 p.m. each day. While you can join the morning virtual queue from anywhere, you will need to be inside the theme park to join the afternoon virtual queue. If you are unable to secure a virtual queue boarding group or if you would like to ride twice in one day, you can also purchase an
Individual Lightning Lane for either of the virtual queue attractions. Individual Lightning Lanes can be purchased using your My Disney Experience mobile app. You can also use your app to purchase the
Disney Genie+ service for
Lightning Lane access to many other attractions throughout the four theme parks.
Wishing you a magical Walt Disney World Resort vacation!
