I heard that entrance to the Magic Kingdom can be restricted during busy times, like during the Christmas holiday. If I buy tickets in advance, does that mean I might not be able to enter the park if it is too busy?

Hi, Ed! I hEAR you have a trip planned during the Most Wonderful Time of the yEAR! The holiday season is my favorite time to visit Walt Disney World Resort, and I'd be happy to share some tips to help you spend less time dashing through the crowds.

The Walt Disney World Parks are designed to handle large numbers of guests. Still, sometimes, they need to limit Park attendance due to guest safety and enjoyment. Seeing that you are traveling the week before Christmas, it's doubtful you'll see peak levels at the beginning of your trip. However, Magic Kingdom Park typically reaches capacity at some point on Christmas Day and New Year's Eve. My best Moms Panel tip is to get to the Park extra early, well ahead of the 9:00 AM opening.  If you plan on driving your own car, also keep in mind that the parking lots often close for capacity-related reasons before the theme parks do.

There are different phases of Park closures, so if you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, you will most likely be able to get in unless it reaches full capacity. Epcot, Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, and Disney's Hollywood Studios rarely close completely, so you can consider another Park as an alternative if Magic Kingdom Park is limiting guests when you arrive. Also, phased closures do not usually last all day, and attendance restrictions are lifted later in the evening when enough guests have left the Park.

Lastly, pack your patience and know that it may be tough to do every single attraction on your "must-do" list (don't forget to make those FastPass+ selections though). This is the perfect time of yEAR to wander around the Parks and take in all the details of the holiday splendor! Indulge in some seasonal treats, pose for some pictures in front of the Christmas tree, and take time for attractions with lower wait times; I never need an excuse to see those Tiki Birds and the Country Bears!

I hope you have a magical holiday, Ed! Check out the Disney Parks Blog for some more tips from my Disney Parks Moms Panel friends. See ya' real soon!

Hi, I'm Eean from Pennsylvania!  I may have an unusual name, but my passion for Disney is not unique.  It’s amazing how many people you can find who love talking about, "The Most Magical Place On Earth!"  I'm that mom who always has her ears perked at PTO meetings, in the grocery store aisle, or at middle school basketball games waiting for an opportunity to give someone a planning tip to help make their vacation even more magical.
