I just heard that Disneyland is phasing out purchases of magic bands. We are going in October and I wanted to buy them for our family. Will they not work anymore when we go?

Hey there, hi there, Catherine! Welcome to planDisney! As a fellow fan of Disney MagicBand+ bracelets, I am so happy to help you get some clarity!

I love how easy they make things at Disneyland Resort, from scanning into the theme parks to tapping into Lightning Lane queues, plus linking your photos in the Disneyland Mobile app with a quick tap from a Disney PhotoPass photographer. It feels like a little extra Disney magic on your wrist! I have several different colors and patterns, and love to match them to my outfit.

Here is the good news! Right now, MagicBand+ devices are still fully functional at Disneyland Resort in the same ways they have been. While things can always change over time, I have not heard that they will stop working. What I have heard is that Disneyland has decided to scale back availability for new purchases.

If you are hoping to buy MagicBand+ devices for your October trip, you can still find them at Disney Store online or through the Walt Disney World website. And just as a quick tip, usage at Disneyland is a bit different than Walt Disney World, if you have experienced that before. At Disneyland, MagicBand+ is only used for the things I mentioned above: park entry, Lightning Lane entry, and some PhotoPass linking, not for hotel room access or in-store purchases.

An October visit is going to be downright spooktacular! You will get to see the Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort decor, enjoy spooky seasonal overlays, and snack your way through treats that are spooky and delicious, in the most delightful, ghoulish way!

Also, because we are currently halfway to Halloween, Disney recently released the Oogie Boogie Bash party dates, and if they line up with your trip, it is such a fun special-ticket event to consider! It is one of the best nights to dress up, trick or treat through the parks, and soak in all the villainous vibes. The parade is Frightfully Fun indeed, and it is the kind of memory that sticks like a Mickey-shaped caramel apple! I attended with my best friend a few years ago, and had the best time interacting with the Disney Villains and collecting way too much candy!

Catherine, I hope you have the most magical trip! October will be here before you know it, so let the countdown begin!

    Happy Haunting!
