We're heading to WDW with a toddler and infant. If we buy LL passes for both parents and the toddler and do rider swap, can the toddler ride twice? The toddler and Parent 1 ride, then switch out and the toddler and Parent 2 ride?

Welcome back to planDisney Cameron! Thank you so much for bringing us your question. Traveling with little ones is my favorite way to experience the magic, and it’s wonderful that you’re already thinking ahead about Rider Switch and Lightning Lane so your whole family can make the most of your time in the parks.

Your toddler can absolutely ride twice when using Rider Switch at Walt Disney World. The system is designed to make sure that families with little ones who don’t meet the height requirement, or infants who can’t ride, don’t miss out. Here’s how it works: when you approach an attraction with Rider Switch, you let the Cast Member know your situation. Parent 1 and the toddler ride first while Parent 2 waits with the infant. After the first ride is over, Parent 2 can then ride without having to go through the full standby line, and the toddler is allowed to ride again with them.

The Rider Switch entitlement is linked to your tickets or MagicBands at the entrance, so everything is handled electronically, and you don’t need to worry about paper passes or re-explaining the situation later.

One important detail to keep in mind is how Lightning Lane plays into this. If you’ve purchased Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Single Pass access, you’ll want to reserve it for both parents and the toddler. That way, when you do the swap, both parents can take advantage of Lightning Lane and your toddler can ride quickly with each of you. Without Lightning Lane, Rider Switch still works, but the first riding group will use the standby line.

This system is only available on rides with height restrictions, since the purpose is to accommodate families with children who can’t ride at all. Since your toddler can ride many attractions but not everything, Rider Switch becomes very helpful. The bonus for your toddler is that they get twice the ride time, once with each parent, while the infant stays safe and comfortable outside the attraction. It’s one of Disney’s best family friendly features.

Cameron, I hope this helps you feel prepared to make the most of Rider Switch during your upcoming trip. With this helpful option, your toddler will have the chance to enjoy special ride experiences with both parents while your infant stays comfortable and cared for. Thank you for visiting planDisney with your question. Wishing you and your family a magical vacation filled with joy, laughter, and unforgettable pixie- memories!
