We are heading to WDW soon. I can't make up my mind between the 2 bedroom at Old Key West or 1 bedroom Animal Kingdom - Jambo for my family. We have three boys. Is AK really out of the way??

Hi, Julie! Since I've stayed at both resorts, let me try to weigh out the pros and cons of each one to help you come up with the very best decision for your family. With the 2-bedroom villa at Old Key West, you are going to have a ton of room since the square footage of those villas are of the largest on property. You'll also have two bathrooms and a nice-sized patio or screened-in porch/balcony.  Old Key West is located near the Downtown Disney resort area and is accessible from there by a water taxi. However, you must take Disney bus transportation to all four theme parks and water parks. The dining at OKW is good, but since it's a Disney Vacation Club (DVC) resort, there isn't going to be a heavy emphasis on restaurants. They have a great pool, and the recreation activities are numerous.

At Animal Kingdom Lodge/Jambo House, you're going to be wow-ed from the moment you step into the breath-taking lobby! The dining at Jiko and Boma are second to none, and the pool area is fabulous. There's a kid's activities center called Simba's Cubhouse, and the resort also features a spa. There are various interesting programs (for kids, adults and families) throughout the resort, and then, there are the animals...right outside your room! My children were mesmerized by the fact that they could watch the animals from our balcony! It's unlike any resort experience on property...or maybe anywhere! You must take Disney bus transportation to all parks and resort areas. Yet, the two times I've stayed there I never had a problem nor did I feel any "further away" than any other resort area that doesn't "connect" to a park -- such as the monorail loop to the Magic Kingdom or The Boardwalk area to Epcot/Hollywood Studios.

I hope this helps you narrow down your decision. If it's size you need, go with OKW, but if it's the "wow" factor and amenities you want, stick with AKL. Let me know if you have more questions. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation!
