We'll be heading to WDW between Aug 9-18th, 2013. Family of 4 (40,40,7,5). What would be the best footwear to wear for this time of season being on our feet all day/night? Would crocs be good or good old gym shoes with socks? aren't socks too hot?

    Hi Mary!
Different strokes (or shoes, in this case) for different folks!
Both of my girls swear that they are comfortable hoofing all over the parks in good ol' flip-flops. I don't understand it, but they love them. I, on the other hand, will ALWAYS (insert Moms Panel punchline from 2010 here!!) wear BROKEN IN, not new, sneakers with low-cut socks. More specifically, walking sneakers or cross-trainers for both comfort and support.
You bring up an interesting option with Crocs. Many people like the airy comfort of a Croc, and my brother-in-law boasts of their support, but I have never worn them.
So, what I will say, is that if Crocs work for your feet and for those of your family, go for it! I am still ALWAYS going to recommend a nice pair of sneakers (broken in, of course!) :)
I wish you a Magical, and comfortable, vacation this summer!! :)
