We are heading to DW for our 1st family trip. With kids ages almost 6, almost 3, and 1, where do you recommend staying? Biggest concern is transportation, price, and something boys will love! We are celebrating b-days and daddy home from Iraq:) Thanks!

Congratulations Elaina on planning this great vacation for the family to celebrate your husband's return and birthdays! Walt Disney World is the best place possible to celebrate!

You have many options and will share my favorites with you.
Shades of Green might be the best possible as it is strictly for military families and might be best price.  Transportation is a bit more restricted from this resort. My choice for resorts that your boys will love are as follows:

    Best Deluxe Choice:
Polynesian Resort as it is on the Magic Kingdom monorail system which is the park you will be spending a great deal of time at.

    Best Moderate Choice:
Port Orleans (either Riverside or French Quarter)
For a more rustic environment the Fort Wilderness Cabins....lots of outdoor activities for the boys for sure!

    Best Value Choice:
Art of Animation Resort which will open in May 2012.
Pop Century if that is not available.
Each of these Value resorts will have their own dedicated bus line so the transportation is not bad at all.

All levels of resorts will have great pools with the moderate and deluxe having better themes and water slides etc.  The moderates and deluxe level resorts will also have more recreation such as boating.  The deluxe resorts will be the closest ones to parks with various types of transportation choices. The value rooms are the smallest but still adequate since you are likely not to spend a great deal of time in the room anyway.  Look at your budget and see which level is best for you. Check out Pirates League in the Magic Kingdom where your boys can become pirates or the great Pirate cruises from the resorts. There will be many things you can plan to make their birthday's special!
