Ahoy, Laura!
Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel! The Castaway Cay 5K is one of my favorite running events on the planet! When we sail on itineraries that make a stop at
Disney's private island, Castaway Cay, my family knows that mama is going to run first thing that morning! Waking up and going for a run through the beautiful island is the best way to start off my day in paradise.
You and your son can sign up for the Castaway Cay 5K the moment you step onboard the ship! Just head over to the Guest Services Desk or Port Adventures Desk and let them know you'd like to register both you and your son for the run. You'll need to register for the race prior to the ship's arrival in Castaway Cay. Disney Cruise Line requires that all runners be 10 years of age or older in order to participate in this run.
Once you've registered, keep an eye on the Personal Navigator newsletter or the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator app to find the meeting time and place for the race. When I last ran in January, we met around 8:00 a.m. and left the ship around 8:30 a.m. Runners receive an official runDisney race bib and a medal once you cross the finish line!
One thing I want to mention is this race can be a hot one, so please make sure both you and your son hydrate before, during and after your run. Oh! Also, even though I keep using words like "run" and "race" there is no stress about participants needing to finish in a certain amount of time. Don't forget you're on an island; island life, including running, is laid back!
I'm wishing you and your son a safe and gorgeous run! Please visit us again with any other questions before your cruise to paradise.
