Heading back to Disney May 27th. We have the base ticket not hopper, we will be staying within Disney and able to use the magic hours. Just wondering if it is better to visit on the extra magic hours or to pick another park for that day?

    Luann:

This is a great question, and I'm asked it often.

Our family has found that Extra Magic Hours can provide us with lots of time to visit our favorite attractions, but only when we use it strategically.

Typically, when Extra Magic Hours occur in the morning, the park is empty and uncrowded, however, by lunch, the park contains not only the guests who came for the extra hour, but also the usual attenders. This bottle neck creates long lines that last the rest of the day....Because we are not season pass holders, and usually purchase only base tickets without hopping, we choose not to do Extra Magic Hours, even during Value Season.  The extra one hour of little to no lines becomes a wash with the long lines in the afternoon.

Evening Magic Hours are a different thing. We have found that it doesn't necessarily equate to long lines during the day.  Our plan is to use this day to catch up on sleep and head to the parks a little later in the morning and then stay until closing.  We have found that after the fireworks in Epcot and Magic Kingdom, the parks empty quickly and those late hours can find us enjoying our favorite rides with no waits.

With your visit coming near Memorial Day when many other families will be visiting because school is out in the South by then, I think my family's plan would work great for you!

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
