Hey Howdy Hey, Connie!
Welcome to planDisney! Yeehaw! How exciting that you are planning ahead for your upcoming Disney vacation, which is just around the riverbend. Soon, you'll be immersed in the magic and making lasting memories with your family.
Connie, if you are staying at a Disney Resort Hotel, you can purchase your
Lightning Lane Multi Passes and Lightning Lane Single Passes for each park day for the entirety of your stay beginning 7 days in advance of your check-in day. If you are not staying at a Disney Resort Hotel, you can do this beginning 3 days in advance of your park day, and for each park day thereafter, you can make the purchase and preselections 3 days in advance.
Now, when you go on your My Disney Experience account and you purchase the Multi Pass (or Single Pass) and make your selections, it will ask you for whom in your party you are selecting that attraction. So, you can make a selection for you and your husband for one attraction and then make a different selection for your son. Alternatively, he can purchase his Multi Pass in his own My Disney Experience account and manage his own selections. The only thing about doing it this way is that if all three of you want to enjoy an attraction together, you'll have to try and time it to be at the same time - which may or may not be successful.
For example, when I was visiting recently with my family of five, three of us wanted to ride Alien Swirling Saucers, and two of our party did not. When I made the selection, I selected the three of us riding that attraction and booked it. And then, I made a different selection for the other two in our party to enjoy while we were on that attraction.
The system is quite smart, and it knows who in your party has three selections and who doesn't, so you can each enjoy the attractions of your choice when making the Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections. The same is true for purchasing the Single Pass attractions. If two of you want to enjoy
Guardians of the Galaxy - Cosmic Rewind, but one of you does not, you can just purchase the Single Pass for the two of you who want to ride it.
One thing to note about the Multi Pass selections is that for three of the theme parks (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, and Hollywood Studios), there are two tiers of attractions. You can always hold three Multi Pass selections at any given time. However, you can only hold one attraction in Tier One and two in Tier Two - or you can select all three attractions in Tier Two. Again, the system is quite smart, so it will walk you through this when you purchase your Multi Pass and make your selections.
The Single Pass attractions are different. They are purchased separately and specific to certain attractions. These attractions are not included in the Multi Pass Lightning Lanes. You can enjoy these attractions using a Single Pass one time per park day. Once you tap into a Single Pass attraction, you do not get to select a new one or select another Multi Pass attraction. However, you could have two Single Pass attractions booked and three Multi Pass Lightning Lane selections booked at the same time.
For example, when we went to Magic Kingdom, we preselected Tiana's Bayou Adventure, Haunted Mansion, and Pirates of the Caribbean as our three Multi Pass selections. We then purchased a Single Pass for Tron Lightcycle / Run and a Single Pass for the Seven Dwarf's Mine Train. We had five attractions prebooked before we arrived.
I hope this helps you, Connie! If you have any further questions, soar back here to us and we'll be so happy to help you.
Magically Yours,
Keri
