We are headed to magic kingdom this Sunday, and currently the weather is predicted to be 28-46 degrees Fahrenheit. Are there any rides that close in cold weather?

Ice to meet you, Taylor, and welcome back to planDisney!

It seems that Elsa has been pretty busy this past week, showering so many of us with her snowy gifts! While glittering icicles and sparkling snowflakes really are their own kind of magic, I have a hunch you were hoping for some Florida sunshine on your upcoming trip to Walt Disney World. Fortunately, I'm here to assure you that The Most Magical Place on Earth is just as enchanting in cold weather, as long as you come prepared. Your visit is just around the corner, so let's hit the slopes and get straight to your question!

First of all, I'm happy to report that Disney World rides and attractions do not generally close during cold weather. In my experience, the theme parks will continue to operate as usual except when there's lightning nearby or in cases of very extreme weather. However, some wet-and-wild outdoor attractions (like Tiana's Bayou Adventure and Kali River Rapids) may experience early closures due to low demand. I also confirmed with a helpful Disney Cast Member that all other outdoor attractions (including your favorite rollercoasters!) are expected to remain open throughout the weekend.

Still, if you're anything like me, speeding around with the freezing cold wind on your face might not be your idea of fun. If that's the case, focus on indoor thrills like TRON Lightcycle / Run or my personal favorite, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Don't forget to squeeze in a ride on Rock 'n' Rollercoaster Starring Aerosmith before it closes to begin its big, Muppet-y transformation this March!

Taylor, the good news is that when it comes to rides and attractions, the cold never bothered them anyway!  Pools, on the other hand, are a different story. On the off chance that you were hoping to go for a swim this weekend, you should know that Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and Disney Resorts Collection hotel pools may be closed due to the cold snap.

This cold weather may not be what you had in mind for your Disney World vacation, but there is one major silver lining! Cold weather often translates to fewer crowds and shorter waits, so you should have an easier time squeezing everything in. Be sure to dress warm (coats, hats, and hand warmers are a must!), fuel up on hot cocoa, and stop by the 2026 EPCOT International Festival of the Arts for some warm and cozy comfort foods!

I hope this information is helpful, Taylor, and that you enjoy your magical winter wonderland! If you have any other planning questions, you know where to find me right here at planDisney!

    Stay magical and stay warm,

    Allison
