Hi! We're headed on a 3N Magic Cruise over MLK weekend in January, and were hoping to do some days in the parks before or after the cruise. Would you suggest visiting WDW before we sail, or upon return? Thanks Ms. Mona Leigh, and have a magical day!

    Hi Katie,

A cruise on the Disney Magic and some time visiting the Walt Disney World theme parks before or after you sail sounds wonderful!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day falls on Monday January 20th in 2014.  The holiday weekend itself will likely be busy, with crowds highest on Sunday and Monday.  The good news for you is that you will be on a cruise from January 17th to January 20th, and the crowds at Walt Disney World over that weekend will likely not impact the week before or after too much.  When looking for crowd predictions at Walt Disney World theme parks, I like to visit the unofficial site touringplans.com.  It looks like they are predicting crowds considerably below average in the days before your cruise, and slightly higher than that but still just below average to average the week after your cruise.

Another consideration I would suggest that you make is what part of the vacation will be the most relaxing for you and your family.  Many people suggest going to Walt Disney World first followed by the cruise.  The logic behind this is that you can tour the parks and do tons of walking first, and then relax on the cruise.  My family prefers to cruise first and then go to Walt Disney World.  Since we love Walt Disney World the most, we like to cruise first and then come back to Walt Disney World, where we relax the most and feel the most at home.

I hope that these thoughts help you make your decision, Katie.  Have a great time planning your trip, and please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!
