Headed down in Jan with a 2.5 yo. I was a CPer at MK, but this 1st experience w/ a LO. Currently planning on 2 days @ MK, 1 day @ HS, and fourth day at....help me pick between Epcot and AK!!! Only thing I hate about AK is that is closes early.

    Hi Amanda,

As you know, Epcot is an enormous park. When our son was little, tackling Epcot was exhausting. We opted for Animal Kingdom and felt that worked very well in our schedule with a small child in tow.

While Animal Kingdom closes early, you'll benefit from spending an entire day at a park with lots to hold your child's interest. And, you'll have an evening free to attend a fun dinner at a resort (Chef Mickey's!), visit Downtown Disney, or simply relax at your hotel. If possible, I like to schedule Animal Kingdom after a day or two in other parks as that early evening really helps to keep everyone rested.

With Disney characters and zoo animals, Animal Kingdom is popular with young kids. At age 2 and 3, our son loved Kilimanjaro Safari, Wildlife Express train to Rafiki's Planet Watch for the petting zoo, TriceraTops Spin, all of the character greetings, and the animal viewing areas throughout the park. Festival of the Lion King was also a big hit! And The Boneyard playground was the most popular spot of all.

If you do opt for Epcot, I recommend Turtle Talk with Crush for families with young kids. If you venture to World Showcase, be sure to take part in the KidCot stations that offer craft activities in each country.

I love January in Walt Disney World. Enjoy!
