We are headed to Disney World in September. We are to make our dining reservations on April 1st. Would you do your own reservations or allow the travel agent to do it? Which do you think has a better chance of getting the reservations you want?

    Thanks for your question!

I am a big fan of using a Disney Authorized Vacation Planner for my family's trips to Walt Disney World. They do so much, and with my planner who works at a no-fee agency I don't pay any more than if I booked directly myself.

It is a tough decision whether to ask your agent to make your reservations for things like meals and FastPass+ plans, or to make them for yourself. I would suggest that you start by chatting with you agent about what they prefer. Assuming they say they will be free to hit that reservation hunt early in the morning of the 180-day mark before your trip, then for dining I would do so. I find that agents have always landed the dining reservations that I wanted better than I could have done for myself. However if they seem unsure, or they say they are making reservations for several clients that same morning, then do it for yourself.

In the case of FastPass+ reservations, I always make my own. I do that because I always find that I need to make some last minute decisions based on what attractions are, and are not available.

In either case, I always have a priority list of what is most important, in order. I go after that most crucial meal or FastPass+ reservation first, then move on to the second most important, and so on. Sometimes people go after them in chronological order, but this way helps ensure that I get more meals and rides that are important to my family.

Regardless, after you have booked all your meals make sure to add them to your My Disney Experience App. They do not always show up there automatically, and I like to have all my reservations in one place! All you need to have handy is the reservation number, and you will be good to go!

Write me back if you have any follow-up questions.

Have a Magical (and delicious) Vacation!
